In this corner of the world, the Winter Solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year. Instead of the typical Weekly Guidance video, I’ve decided to celebrate this wonderful day with a special group reading around this occasion.
So, with a long night ahead of us, and then the promise of more and more light as we move through this winter, what do we abandon in the dark? What do we find in the dawn?
What do we abandon in the dark?
Consequence - Indiscretion’s Progeny
We’ve all had quite enough, haven’t we? Old actions and anxieties surging forward in this past year to bite our ankles, and shame us for everything we did wrong, and everything else that we failed to do.
But “wrong” and “failure” are not really concepts that help us align with our best selves - they’re judgments, and harsh ones at that. I know this is nasty medicine for some of us to take, but there really are no such things as mistakes, or even missed opportunities - not on a spiritual level.
There are learning experiences. That’s it. If you look at every mis-step as a mistake, a failure, or a wrong action, then you’re forgetting that no matter how many other choices you could’ve made, you still didn’t do it any differently. It’s done. You did what you did, and you said what you said. There is no wrong when there aren’t opportunities to do things differently. All that you have is a learning experience.
Cause and effect are real. Reaping what you sow is reality. It’s just that neither flow of energy amounts to an unbalanced scale. Like the tarot card, Justice, the scales are always even, always in balance.
So this is what we leave behind tonight. The guilt, shame, fear, and judgement around what has happened. All we can do is be responsible for the outcomes, and face them head on, like our friend on the card here. They’ve learned from their indiscretion. And now, with axe ready and gaze fierce, they’re facing what has come as a result.
They’ve abandoned their judgments of what’s been done and can’t be changed.
The best thing that we can do is the same.
What do we find in the dawn?
Coercion - Leaving Behind
Friends, this year is ending, and 2017 is about to unfold whether we’re ready for it or not. There are two (major) ways that we can move forward.
The first is with tears on our cheeks, and dragging our feet. Coerced, actually. Giving all of our power up and closing our eyes so we don’t have to see what’s coming.
Or, we can choose to walk side-by-side with the renewed energies and opportunities. What we find in the dawn is an opportunity to lead, rather than follow. Here is our chance.
We can travel heavy, all of our baggage hastily packed and dragging us down. Or we can travel with the tools that let us lead. A walking stick for support, a knife for protection, and a violin for joy.
Whether we move forward or not is non-negotiable. In the dawn what we find is that the choice of how we move forward is what matters.
Give something up. Drop the baggage. Grab your walking stick.
Tell me, how do you intend to greet the dawn?
(This reading was down with the Rackham Oracle - and to the person who gifted it to me, you have no idea how timely and uplifting your gift and letter was. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You'll hear from me soon!)
