I lay awake most of the night unable to get comfortable, mind racing, not feeling very sleepy, and generally pretty perturbed about it all. I like my sleep. I don't get insomnia very often. I tried every visualization I had up my sleeves. I tried getting up and doing something mindless. I asked my guides to help. Finally, after I realized that I needed a different approach, I decided to ask my guides directly what was going on.
"Why am I awake right now?"
Being primarily clairvoyant means that my guides frequently give me an image in response. They showed me bees, almost exactly as they appear in my card (above) in the Faerie's Nature Oracle deck.
As I lay there, sleepless, I started to pick apart the message. Bees? Well, immediately, they made me think of...
And that made sense. When you take a big step towards something that you want despite the fear that you're going to trip and fall on your face, your spiritual team rallies behind you. This has happened to me before, during another big life shift this past summer. It's nice of them, it's comforting, but it also disturbs sleep in a big way.
Bees are busy. I've been busy. All the bustle and nerves that I had worked up over the past few days was clinging to me like dust from a massive cleaning effort. Energy, especially charged and frenetic energy, has a way of sticking around. I had just gotten my honey-bee on, and done nothing to clean all that pollen and whatnot off. Whoops.
Then it hit me. Buzz. Buzzed. Wow. Coffee. I don't drink a lot of coffee anymore, I try to limit it to just weekends because otherwise I become dependent, and then there are migraines, and mood swings, and bad sleep. But the five days prior to this night were an exception. I had coffee almost every single day due to the holiday and all of the work and preparations I was making. It caught up to me.
So while my guides could have just illustrated or said: You can't sleep because you've worked up all this energy, and we're here trying to help you shift all of it, and you drank too much damn coffee this week...
Instead they gave me just one image. Bees.
And how much deeper, unique, and special was that message for all the things it conveyed? I shared this story because I sometimes struggle with this mode of Spirit communication. As beautiful and intriguing as the images can be, sometimes it's tempting to dismiss them because they require a little bit of effort to untangle. But the more you work at it, the better you get, and it's getting simpler and simpler to understand these visions the more I work at it.If you've had a mediumship reading with me, then I don't doubt for a second that there's at least one image from it that you're probably scratching your head over.
It may be a few weeks or months before you get your ah-ha moment, but if you feel like it's something you should know by now, have another go at it. Your guides give me these images for a good reason. It's because they're multi-layered, and after unpacking that image you have a message of a thousand words rather than a simple affirmation or note of encouragement.
