New Year's Guidance

I long ago stopped making resolutions for the New Year. Now I make them as they’re needed, on whatever day it is that I decide to change something, but I still love New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. There’s a wonderfully clean feeling to January 1st, and all day today I’ve been feeling the exciting potential that waits in the year to come. I felt called to my cards today, and to share a fun reading with you.

Pick one of the 8 images below, whichever one you think is prettiest, or whichever one calls to you. Then, scroll down till you find that image again and you will see the card that it corresponds to, plus some guidance for you as you go into the New Year.

Important: When you scroll down you may find that the card that goes to each image is a little but cut off. Just click on the picture and the images should shift so that you can fully see each card!

Have you found an image that you like?

Aren't they pretty?

These are the backs from one card, from each one of my decks.

Mostly I'm filling up space so that you don't accidentally see the card each image corresponds to until you've decided, but case you're interested, here are the decks I use:

The Vertigo Tarot

The Faerie Oracle

Dreaming Way Tarot

Wildwood Tarot

Les Cartes Infernales

The Druid Animal Oracle

The Wild Unknown

Okay - ready? Find the image that you picked below, and I hope the corresponding reading is helpful to you!

Hare - reversed

You’re off-balance right now. I get the sense that it’s not so much a matter of you personally doing too much of something, or too little of something, but rather the disequilibrium is all around you, and you’re letting it affect you.  It doesn’t have to be like this! Here are a few wise words that may help:

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt

In other words, whatever is getting in your way and throwing you off balance can only do so as long as you give it permission to. Shut out the distraction and the dysfunction, and you will find your balance again.

The Magician

I believe that this is a powerful card, and there are powerful energies behind a person that can see what they want, and then manifest it. So remember that you’ve got it. You’re going to do it. Whatever it is you set your sights on, it will be yours. Don’t doubt yourself, don’t be afraid. Clarify your goals, define whatever it is you want, and then it.

Six of Vessels, Reunion - reversed

There is some very large piece of your life that you feel is missing. Whether it’s a romantic partner, a friend, a family member, or a job, there’s something that you’ve been looking for. Whatever it is that you’ve lost, it’s time to let go of hoping to get it back in its original form. Everything changes, and what was good for you back then may not be good for you now, or in the future. Embrace the change, look for something truly new, and you will find greater happiness in the New Year.

You have a fine line to walk. In some aspect of your life you have a great deal of power, but be careful of wielding it with a devil-may-care attitude. Be careful not to step on people. There’s temptation to learn things, do things, and say things that are only possible because of your position, but even if it’s technically okay for you to do those things...think of the effects it could have. Be responsible, remember morality, and all will be well.

Nine of Pentacles - reversed

What I see here is divine wisdom, and inspiration coming to you. Great ideas are coming your way! Don’t let them go unused! This is especially true in terms of writings, plans, procedures, processes. If you’ve got an idea that you could be doing something differently, now is the time to try it out. Start listening to that inner voice that tells you that you have a good idea. If you ignore it, you could also be ignoring some brilliant opportunities.

The Maiden - reversed

There’s a need for renewal, cleansing, and purifying in your life in all of its various forms. Cleaning house, taking a spa day, de-cluttering even just one closet, these things are physical, but you might be surprised by how simple physical changes can have equal effects on our mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. Start setting things straight in one area of your life, and you may notice surprising gains in other areas.

Seven of Wands

Whatever challenge has got you worried and stressed - relax, it’s completely within your abilities to tackle. There’s some pain involved in this struggle, whatever it is, but it’s not going to be as bad as you imagine. Think bruises instead of broken bones. Remember: “Without the sour, the sweet wouldn’t taste.”* If you’ve got hills to climb, then there’s something awesome waiting for you on the other side. Enjoy the journey, even if your feet hurt, and keep positive because things are rarely as bad as you think they will be.

*Although this has been said by many people over the years, I'm specifically quoting a song from The Hush Sound. Excellent band, by the way.

The Devil - reversed

This is overdue. It’s time to let go of what’s holding you back. Bad habits, bad relationships, bad thoughts. Once you well and truly decide to change your actions and reactions, the world around you is also going to change. What was once dark will be light. Sometimes before you can make strides elsewhere in life, and before you can achieve your goals, you need to do a little work on the inside.

Wishing you a very happy, healthy, peaceful, joyful, beautiful, exciting New Year!!
